Visit Gibraltar, a British Colony since 1713, often described as the shopping centre of the Western Mediterranean due to its numerous shops offering a vast selection of goods. See the rock’s most spectacular sites: St. Michael’s Cave, one of Europe’s most dramatic natural grottoes located halfway up the western slope approximately 300 metres above sea level, and Apes’ Den, named for its tailless monkeys, the Barbary macaques. Roaming freely along the upper rock, these endearing creatures will enchant you with their antics. They are perhaps the best known of Gibraltar’s attractions.
