Cross the Strait of Gibraltar by high-speed ferry to Tangier (1 hour), a cosmopolitan Moroccan town inhabited by the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Berbers and Arabs and later colonized by the Portuguese, Spanish, British and French. Once declared an international city, the Tangier we know today has been moulded from its various past cultures and annexation by Morocco. Visit the crowded Souks, the walled area of the Medina, and the Kasbah with its narrow streets leading to bazaars offering a bewildering array of goods. Take pictures of the legendary snake charmers and eccentric-looking water sellers.
