Montego Bay: Jamaica’s colourful port of call

If you’re a snorkelling or diving buff, Montego Bay has some of the best in the Caribbean. Swim with nurse sharks and soldier fish around the Rose Hall Reef’s “Fairy Castle,” a big column of coral that rises all the way to the surface. Gutsier types should head to Widowmaker’s Cave, a cavernous tunnel 25 metres deep, filled with barracuda and other reef fish.

Get your adrenalin pumped on MoBay’s winding back roads with a rough-and-tumble Montego Bay Dune Buggy Adventure. Explore the Jamaican countryside, and travel across old sugar fields and estates dating back to the 1600s.

If your knowledge of the Rastafari movement is limited to Bob Marley records, get up, stand up and hit the Rastafari Indigenous Village to learn about the history, philosophy and lifestyle of Jamaica’s most famous native religion.

The flagship restaurant in the Caribbean franchise, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, can be a bit of a tourist trap during the day. Come nightfall, though, it’s a genuine hotspot for locals.

If the sun and surf haven’t sapped your energy, barrel down the waterslide (Jamaica’s first) right into the ocean or play on the floating trampoline. If you’re into big nightclubs, Pier One is for you. Packed mostly with locals dressed to the nines, it’s crowded, sweaty, loud and THE place to be most nights of the week.
