Transat A.T. Inc. is pleased to announce Howard Liebman's appointment to the role of Vice President, Government Relations. Reporting to Bernard Bussières, Chief Legal Affairs and Government Relations Officer and Corporate Secretary, Mr. Liebman will continue to represent and pursue the interests of Air Transat in the governmental landscape while building and maintaining valuable relationships across all levels of government.
Since joining Transat in 2018, Howard has been instrumental in consolidating relationships with government partners. "Howard is a great professional and advocate. His work continues to allow us to succeed at the local, national and international levels," said Bernard Bussières. "His cross-functional understanding of the various departments is remarkable. His tenacity, perseverance, and judgment have been key to getting through the pandemic."
Howard's appointment comes following a particularly turbulent period in the aviation industry. As a lawyer and lifelong aviation enthusiast, Howard is a trusted leader and consensus builder. Engaging widely across government, industry, community, and diplomatic partners, Howard was called upon to accompany Air Transat and the wider sector's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prior to joining Transat, Howard served as Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to Canada’s former Minister of Justice & Attorney General and was Senior Advisor (international and intergovernmental relations) to the former mayor of Montreal. Howard has grown deep roots in voluntarism and community service. He has served and led various community organizations, particularly in education and health. He equally serves on professional associations across the tourism and travel industry.
Howard holds a Bachelor of Civil and Common Law and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, and is a Member of the Bars of Quebec and Ontario.
